Korona Kielce was saved from bankruptcy. The city council's decision probably saved the Kielce club. After Korona was relegated from Ekstraklasa last season, the German owners announced that they would withdraw from financing the club. It became clear that Korona would soon declare bankruptcy. The city decided to intervene and agreed on Tuesday to buy 72% of the club's shares from the current majority shareholder, the Hundsdorfer family. Fourteen councilors voted in favor of the solution, seven were against, and four abstained. The resolution was passed with the votes of the Law and Justice and Non-Partisan councilors. The German investor agreed to sell the club for a symbolic 'złotówka' on the condition that the city would commit to paying off the majority shareholder's debts. This means that the city of Kielce will invest 5 million złotys in the club. Kielce President Bogdan Wenta stated that this will allow the city to take full responsibility for how Korona should function. And so it will be possible to introduce remedial measures and organize the financial situation. Korona Kielce has a beautiful infrastructure, stadium, and history. However, this requires a different approach to functioning. Councilor Agata Wojda from the Civic Coalition criticized the council's decision, claiming that the city had supported the club with an amount of almost 14 million złotys over the past two years, which she believed was at the expense of more urgent needs of the residents. The amount we allocated to Korona in less than two years is 13.5 million złotys, and it was supposed to be only 2 million złotys per year. The city's money should be spent differently. The people of Kielce voted for this and did not want a return to the zero policy, where the city supports professional sports. So now the city must find a way to finance Korona Kielce's activities. But it won't be easy, as the club has large debts and needs quick financial help. Korona Kielce is an important element of sports in Kielce, and the city must do everything to save it.
